iDEAL becomes Wero: what does it mean for your practice?

You may have seen the name Wero come up already. The move from iDEAL to Wero has started and will be rolled out step by step over the coming years. That naturally raises questions: what does this mean for my practice, my clients and my payments through Vetocare?

The most important thing first: for Vetocare users, nothing changes day to day. Vetocare payment links and Vetocare QR payments keep working the same way. The only visible difference is an updated logo at checkout, and we take care of that for you.

From early 2026, the logo iDEAL | Wero appears. Everything keeps working as you are used to, and for your clients it feels just as familiar. They keep paying through their own bank, just as quickly and simply as now. Wero becomes visible gradually while iDEAL stays recognisable, so the payment experience stays clear and there is no confusion, online or at the front desk. There is also an active campaign to make Wero better known.

What does Wero mean in the Netherlands?

In the Netherlands, Wero is the successor to iDEAL. The transition is gradual: iDEAL and Wero first exist side by side as iDEAL | Wero. In time Wero will replace iDEAL completely, but step by step. Until then iDEAL remains available and recognisable to clients.

For Dutch practices this mainly means continuity: the same payment flow and the same reliability, but ready for the future of European payments.

And what about Belgium?

Things are a little different in Belgium. There, Wero can already be used as a payment method, and it will completely replace familiar methods such as Payconiq.

Unlike iDEAL in the Netherlands, Bancontact is not part of Wero. In practice this means Bancontact will continue to play an important role.
